Following Grudging--and with a mix of Terry Goodkind and Bernard Cornwall--religion, witchcraft, and chivalry war in Faithful, the exciting next chapter in Michelle Hauck's Birth of Saints series!
A world of Fear and death…and those trying to save it.
Colina Hermosa has burned to the ground. The Northern invaders continue their assault on the ciudades-estados. Terror has taken hold, and those that should be allies betray each other in hopes of their own survival. As the realities of this devastating and unprovoked war settles in, what can they do to fight back?
On a mission of hope, an unlikely group sets out to find a teacher for Claire, and a new weapon to use against the Northerners and their swelling army.
What they find instead is an old woman.
But she’s not a random crone—she’s Claire’s grandmother. She’s also a Woman of the Song, and her music is both strong and horrible. And while Claire has already seen the power of her own Song, she is scared of her inability to control it, having seen how her magic has brought evil to the world, killing without reason or remorse. To preserve a life of honor and light, Ramiro and Claire will need to convince the old woman to teach them a way so that the power of the Song can be used for good. Otherwise, they’ll just be destroyers themselves, no better than the Northerners and their false god, Dal. With the annihilation their enemy has planned, though, they may not have a choice.
A tale of fear and tragedy, hope and redemption, Faithful is the harrowing second entry in the Birth of Saints trilogy.
Not for the first time, Claire reconsidered her decision to stay when Ramiro had asked her. She’d lingered out of curiosity—and truthfully because it felt good to be needed—but they didn’t need her now with the Northern army defeated. She could return to the swamp and away from so many people. Despite her hopes of friends and community, she felt awkward here. Reason said she’d get used to their ways, but being around so many folk made her want to hide. Everything pressed down. The walls of the tent shrunk, pinning her in, and smothering her. It became hard to breathe.
She reached for a fresh strip of cloth, only to have her hand shake. She snatched the material and began to roll it, trying to shut out everything else, including her own doubts.
Before she could find a semblance of peace, though, someone shouted. Ladies screamed. Claire looked over her shoulder at the noise. A brown-bearded man in a poncho and a floppy hat ran in her direction. “My family is dead, because of the evacuations. Because of you.”
Claire gasped. He seemed to be talking to Beatriz, then his gaze found Claire.
“Witch!” His outstretched hand suddenly held a long butcher knife. “Witch! Stay away from us! Murderer! Abomination! Die!”
Fronilde dropped to the ground, but Claire couldn’t move. Surprise robbed her brain of a Song to stop him. Even the words of the Hornet Tune, which she knew as well as her name, deserted her. The man closed as everyone scrambled out of his way. Then Beatriz sprang from her chair to stand over Claire, holding up her hand. The tall, black-lace mantilla atop her head waved like a flag. “Stop.”
Something about the authority in the First Wife’s voice—or maybe her simple resistance instead of cringing or scrambling away—brought the man up short, making him pause for a moment. Just the moment the bodyguard needed to crush the lunatic to the floor and overpower him, wrestling free the knife. More guards came running from outside.
Breath rushed back in Claire’s lungs. Beatriz sniffed and touched a spot on her chest over her heart and then her forehead and stomach areas. “Imbecile. He didn’t know who he was dealing with.”

Happy Book Birthday to Keeping Her Secret by Sarah Nicolas!
All’s fair in love and summertime prank wars
The last person Riya Johnson expected to run into at her new summer camp is Courtney Chastain—her childhood best friend and the girl who broke her heart after a secret, mind-blowing, life-altering kiss. She definitely didn’t expect to be sharing a bunk bed with her for four long weeks.
Courtney has what every girl wants—she’s beautiful, rich, and the object of every boy’s desire at Camp Pine Ridge. Too bad none of them make her feel an iota of what Riya’s kiss did all those years ago. But Courtney needs to uphold appearances at all costs—even if it means instigating an all-out prank war with Riya as her main target.
Neither girl can stop thinking about the other…but that doesn’t mean they can give up past hurts and take a chance on a future together.

I am delighted to be the next stop on the book release blog tour for FROSH 2: Second Chances by the gorgeous Monica B. Wagner.
A while back, I bought and read FROSH 1 - and, of course, fell in love. And after such a painful cliff hanger at the end of the book, I jumped at the chance to get my hands on an ARC of FROSH 2!
That's the cover for book 1, by the way!
So, Ellie, Grant, Devon and Charlie are back - and the sequel does not disappoint. It's as fresh, fun, and risky as the first, and I freaking loved it. 5 STARS all the way!
Boy, are things about to get complicated!
Arriving back to the warzone that is Hillson, Ellie is ready to make things right—not just with Grant, but with the entire football team. But heck, what she hopes has blown over has in fact blown up like a nuclear bomb, making the shit truly hit the fan. Now the target of unwanted attention, Ellie’s got to seriously rethink every next step she takes.
Grant’s got a lot of personal stuff to sort out—without football, he needs to prove that he can find passion and excel elsewhere. But with Ellie on his mind day in day out, smoothing things over with her first is paramount. As usual, this will definitely not be straight forward, particularly with what Ellie’s planning for her future.
Devon’s happy, in love. For a bitch like her, those feelings don’t come easy, but adorkable Charlie is the drug on which she’s hooked—unlike her addict brother. So the next steps in their relationship can only be taking Charlie home to meet Mom; but, of course, Devon’s nerd just isn’t good enough for Mom. Although there is one way to win her approval even if it does involve some foul play.
Charlie’s dream relationship doesn’t seem so dreamy after all. Maybe he and Devon just aren’t meant to be; two polar opposite upbringings can never work. But aside from his love life, Charlie’s entire perfect bubble is about to burst, and getting to the bottom of all the lies, betrayal, and revelations is going to be tough.
What I love most about FROSH, 1 and 2, is not only the simplistic writing style and great characterisation, but Wagner’s ability to build up and layer each of these character’s lives, ensuring their stories all intertwine, creating, quite honestly, a complex and frustrating mess that means I, not only want to, but have to keep reading. Until the last pages you just don’t know how things will conclude, how the characters will claw their way back, or what disaster is going to strike next. It’s clever, and makes for addictive reading.
Although in FROSH 1, I found Ellie and Grant’s roles to be more engaging, I actually connected with Devon and Charlie in FROSH 2, and their situation was quite heart-wrenching. I couldn’t help but sit slightly more in Charlie’s camp, but Devon’s a character I really hate to love. Such a bitch, but the actions she takes are driven, deep down, by a spark of good in her heart.
And wow, Wagner deals us another horrible, evil, knife-twisting cliff-hanger to end with! I cannot wait for FROSH 3. These books are so fresh and engaging, with gorgeous romance, steamy sex scenes, complex storylines, and vivid and real characterisation. An absolute must read, in my opinion.
Mónica was born in a Peruvian city by a snow-capped volcano. Growing up, books were her constant companions as she traveled with her family to places like India (where she became a vegetarian), Thailand (where she *almost* met Leonardo di Caprio), France (where she pretended to learn French), and countless other places that inspired her to write. Now, Mónica lives in Chile with her husband, three boys, eleven hens, and stray dog. Keep up with Monica and follow her on Twitter @Monica_BW or visit her website: http://monibw.blogspot.com.
It's here! It's arrived!
Today, I reveal the brand new cover of Winell Road. And I am so excited and hopeful that you will love it as much as I do.
It's been a bumpy road getting Winell Road out there, and, after leaving my publisher - on good terms! - earlier in the year, I made the bold but terrifying decision to self-publish the series. I cannot even describe the anxiety, but I am sure plenty of fellow self-publishers know exactly what I'm talking about.
During its first year out there in the world, book 1 in the series was really well received, particularly by children, and this time around I'm determined to reach new readers and grow a worldwide fan base for Jack and crew, with book 2 set to be released around Christmas time.
A big thank you to the extraordinarily talented illustrator that is Paul Mudie for creating this striking and very fitting picture. On answering a shout out for help on Twitter, I got chatting with Paul, gave him a brief idea of what I was looking for, and voila! This pinged into my inbox! Just amazing, and I am so grateful to him for bringing this scene to life in the way he has. He's perfectly captured the tone of the story.
Then, I called in my gorgeous talented buddy E.L. Wicker to add the finishing design touches to the cover and yep, I was good to go. There is nothing like having a supportive, creative, and inspirational team holding your hand.
So, with no further ado, here it is!
What do you think? I'm in love with it!
And here's the shiny new blurb!
Living on Winell Road is hardly fun, not when your neighbors are weirder than your own parents.
But the road has a secret that few people know.
And Jack’s about to uncover it.
Mystery, action and adventure. This award-winning sci-fi series is “highly recommended” for middle grade readers.
For fans of Men in Black and Zac Power, Winell Road is jam-packed with “loads of twists and turns” that will keep you guessing to the end.
So, that's it! The e-book version is now available to pre-order over on Amazon, just click the link below, and the paperback will follow shortly. Thank you so much for popping by, and do let me know what you think of the cover in the comments. I'm all up for feedback!
