Today, I'm delighted to have fabulous Australian author Susan Day on the blog...well, actually, that's new entirely true. I actually have two dogs on the blog! I know! Please welcome Astro and... Alfie! “Astro, where are we?” “I’m not sure; it feels like we are in a blog.” “A bog?” “No, a blog!” “What’s a blog?!” “Listen, Alfie, if I have to tell you again I’ll go crazy!” “Like when you went crazy and tore off the door and saved that poor dog? Then we ended up saving all the dogs from the Check Out.” “Well, maybe not that crazy but... Hey, that was fun wasn’t it? The Check Out sure is a nasty place.” “Well, it’s where cruel people send their dogs to be “checked out’.” “I know and it’s often not the poor dog’s fault. Some dogs just bark because they are lonely.” “Yeah, and others dig holes because they are bored.” “Well, it’s a good job our scribe, Susan Day, wrote it all down and called it The Great Escape, Alfie.” “That was your first adventure with us, wasn’t it, Astro?” “It sure was! And how many have we had since then?” “Well, there was The Golden Treasure; Rampaging Rats; Major Dakota’s Ghost and... well lots!” “It’s a good job, Susan Day, writes them all down or I’d probably forget about them if she didn’t.” “How could you forget when we were sent into space to replace the moon in Dogs in Space, Alfie?” “Oh, yeah, I couldn’t forget that. After all, it was me that saved the day!” “Only because you farted so much you turned the spaceship around.” “Well, what can I say... it’s a gift!” “Alfie, being smelly is not a gift - it’s gross!” “Indy uses my stinky armpits to create her stink bombs; she doesn’t think I’m gross!” “Well, I suppose you’ve got a point. Those stink bombs have certainly saved us a few times. Do you remember when she finished off the evil genius in The Haunted Circus?” “That was funny. Will that wicked cat ever learn?!” “Probably not! Hey, we better get going, Alfie. I can hear Commander Rocky. He’s barking something about a new mission.” “Another one, Astro? We were just in China to deliver a baby dragon to the Imperial Palace!” “I know, Susan’s already called that one Waking the Dragon. But our work never stops, Alfie, you should know that. We are called on every day to save dogs from neglect – that’s what we do.” “And lions, Astro.” “And we saved Neptune’s Trident, too!” “Oh, and don’t forget we saved Christmas – not once but twice!” “Well, the second time was sort of our fault, Alfie, can you remember how cross Santa Claus was?” “Oh, don’t remind me!” “Let’s go. I’m sure our next adventure will be dangerous, mysterious and strange, just like all the others.” “I can’t wait!” “Me neither, my friend, me neither.” Thanks guys! And, as it's only polite, here's a little about Astro and Alfie's creator! Susan Day is passionate about children's literature and wants to inspire children to follow their dreams. She created the Astro’s Adventures series and has written other titles too. Each book Susan creates encourages and promotes the wonderful art of story-telling with organic illustrations and characters that portray similar character traits that the readers’ pets share. Susan shares her country home with four dogs from the Astro’s Adventures series, Rocky, Stella, Alfie and Digger, as well as, four rescue guinea pigs, three bossy cats, a blue budgie and a very patient husband.
